The Right Choice Requires the Right Information
|
There are many
excellent reasons why one should care about protecting their contact and
personal history information; these reasons along with instructions on how to
do it can be found via the links listed below. RIT was founded to provide companies that care about their customers and
privacy a resource to lower risk by improving the qualifying process without
exposing their customers to competitors or exploitation.
Unfortunately, national marketing companies and data
aggregators often glean information on consumers without their direct
knowledge or permission. This information is combined with other data and then
analyzed to extrapolate patterns and habits about which the consumer may not
even be aware. This new data is then sold to as many companies as possible for the explicit purpose of
encouraging consumers to purchase more goods and products than they would
otherwise need or want. Of course
the companies gathering, selling, buying and using the information all claim
that this is legal and not exploitation, but rather a service to help
the consumer by offering them goods and services in which they are interested.
However, the primary purpose of these activities is to sell more products
in any way they can. If by some remote possibility a consumer is actually helped, it is by mere chance.
More likely results include overextending the consumer financially, which often leads to embarrassment,
bankruptcy or worse.
RIT believes strongly that consumers should control who has access to their personal data and history.
Consumers are fully capable and in a better position to decide for themselves, what goods and services they are
interested in receiving offers for.
Often consumers believe
that only the one trusted company they are directly doing business with will
have access to their private information and payment history; when in reality,
an unlimited number of third-party and affiliated companies may as well.
Just one seemingly benign phrase in small print within an application or privacy
policy can expose one’s private data to the world. Fortunately,
some companies actually care about and protect their customers’ privacy; RIT
exists to help them.
RIT would like to acknowledge these consumer friendly companies by continuing
to develop tools that help protect their client lists,
customers, their customer’s privacy and privacy in general.
Please check back often as breakthroughs will be announced on this web site. Thank
you for your support.
